Russia has moved to massive strikes on energy infrastructure — Koretskyi
Russia has switched to massive combined attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Overnight on 30 September, missiles and drones hit energy facilities in Kyiv, Kyiv Region and other regions, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi said.
According to him, since the summer there has hardly been a day without attacks on energy infrastructure, but an attack of such scale and combined nature is the first since the end of the last heating season. "Russia has moved to massive strikes on energy infrastructure," the head of government said.
Damage and destruction of energy facilities
The overnight attack caused damage to and destruction of energy infrastructure. Detailed data on the condition of the equipment and the timeline for restoration are still awaited.
Koretskyi instructed local authorities to check the readiness of backup power systems at critical facilities in communities and to complete their installation and connection as fast as possible. Earlier the prime minister had already stressed that local authorities are responsible for backup power at heating, water supply and sewage facilities ahead of the heating season.
In total, 11 regions of Ukraine were under attack from the evening of 29 September. Besides energy facilities, residential buildings, social infrastructure, civilian enterprises and the railway were hit. According to the prime minister at the time of his statement, 14 people were injured and five killed, including a child. The threat of repeat strikes remains in some regions, and emergency repair work and clean-up continue at damaged sites.
